Over the years, Beatles’ memorabilia has fetched high prices at auctions, with items like John Lennon‘s guitar selling for millions, while the band’s rare setlists and record contracts also fetched significant sums. The latest addition to this trend is an unfinished piece of toast from George Harrison‘s breakfast in 1963, which was recently sold to collector Joseph O’Donnell for an undisclosed price in a private sale. Originally saved in a scrapbook by 15-year-old Beatles fan Sue Houghton, the framed toast scrap dates back to February 8, 1963, the eve of the band’s final show at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. “Well, I never authenticated it! That’s totally bulls**t,” Harrison told Vox Magazine in 1992. “I really dislike that. I ate all my toast, I never left any. The madness is the people selling it, and the people actually buying it.” Despite Harrison’s claim, the toast has become a sought-after item among Beatles enthusiasts, previously selling for $94,800 at a 1991 auction at Christie’s in London.
